The rise of electric car charging points

As we all become more proactive in taking care of our planet, electric (EV) cars are seeing a rise in popularity. In tandem with this increase, there has also been a rise in electric car charging points located throughout the country – some of which our experts have provided line markings for! And with the cost of living soaring, it’s becoming ever more enticing to charge up rather than fill up.  

So, how can we visualise the locations of EV across the UK? Just take a look at our infographic below, which shows which regions of the UK have the most car charging points per 100,000 people – along with some interesting EV stats. 

EV numbers you need to know

Let’s take a look at these stats in more detail. 

• There has been a staggering 35% increase in the number of charging devices since April 2021, reflecting the demand for infrastructure to match the growing popularity in EV cars. 
• Around 10.8% of all new car registrations consisted of EV vehicles, showing that they are now taking a decent chunk of the market. 
• A study conducted by CarGuide showed that Milton Keynes has emerged as the best area in the UK to own an electric car, with 137 charging points per 100,000 people. 

It’s also worth noting that electric car drivers will have to pay the full cost for their own home charging points as of April 2022, as the government scheme which offered grants towards installations has now ended. This is all the more reason to get familiar with your local points.
